R3C and DIST–Politecnico di Torino Sign MoU with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) to Strengthen Collaboration on Urban Resilience and Sustainable Development

The Responsible Risk Resilience Centre (R3C), together with the Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning (DIST) of Politecnico di Torino, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Technology and Innovation (ITI) of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

This agreement establishes a long-term institutional partnership aimed at advancing joint research, training, and innovation in the areas of urban resilience, climate change adaptation, sustainability, and circular economy.

A Shared Commitment to Resilient and Sustainable Futures

R3C is the first Italian research centre dedicated specifically to resilience, transition strategies, multi-risk governance, and the just green transition of cities, infrastructures, and territories. In close collaboration with DIST, the Centre promotes interdisciplinary research, supports evidence-based planning, and contributes to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The University of Southern Denmark, through its Faculty of Engineering and the Civil and Architectural Engineering Section, and the UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience, shares complementary areas of expertise in sustainable development, digital transition, engineering innovation, and urban resilience. Both institutions place strong emphasis on international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and collaboration with public authorities, industry, global organisations and civic society.

The MoU establishes a strategic framework for R3C, DIST, and SDU to collaborate on mobility, joint research, shared training initiatives, funding opportunities, and co-production of knowledge and tools to advance resilient and sustainable urban and territorial development.

A Milestone for R3C’s Internationalisation Path

The agreement represents a significant step in strengthening R3C’s international network and consolidating its role as a reference point in Italy and Europe for research and capacity building on resilience.

Combining the interdisciplinary strengths of R3C and DIST with SDU’s engineering and innovation capacities, the MoU lays the groundwork for impactful long-term cooperation, joint educational initiatives, and shared contributions to sustainable and adaptive urban futures.
