Risolvere le fragilità territoriali. La risposta degli standard urbanistici del PRG di Aosta

Il capitolo analizza l’approccio agli standard nel vigente strumento urbanistico di Aosta (2009). Il tema fondante dell'approccio di questo piano urbanistico in tema di standard si relaziona con due obiettivi: da un lato, garantire il riequilibrio di Aosta come polo regionale e snodo di interscambio di servizi pubblici e attività amministrative; dall’altra, fornire una risposta idonea alle fragilità territoriali che derivano dalla complessa dialettica tra il sistema costruito e quello naturale che hanno strutturato storicamente lo sviluppo della città.

Institutional contradictions and attempts at innovation. Evidence from the Italian urban facility planning

Spatial planning affects the way in which cities are created and developed, as well as their economics and welfare. It does so by constructing institutional frameworks that frequently undergo states of contradiction and demands for adjustment and revision. This situation is particularly evident by looking at the way in which urban facilities have been planned during the twentieth century. The article explores the issue of urban facility planning in Italy by taking into account the adaptations of the institutional framework governing and regulating their supply.

Planning for Climate Change: Adaptation Actions and Future Challenges in the Italian Cities

Climate change is a prominent concern of the 21th-century daily life so much that cities worldwide have been widely engaged in contrasting it. In this scenario, urban resilience is becoming one of the top priorities of development agendas and a guiding principle of the policy governance of contemporary cities. This paper discusses the spread of the urban resilience paradigm within the field of Italian spatial planning focusing in particular on the national approach to adaptation and the recent - and unique - experiences of Bologna and Ancona local plans.

Le città sedi di corte signorile nel Nord Ovest dell’Italia accolgono per i cantieri urbani più prestigiosi, tra la fine del Medioevo e l’inizio dell’età Moderna, maestranze specializzate giunte da diverse parti del territorio italiano e d’oltralpe. I marchesati di Saluzzo, di Monferrato e il ducato di Savoia attuano scelte artistiche rivolte all’impiego di lapicidi, scultori e capimastri di diversa provenienza che connotano i principati del Nord della cultura architettonica francese, lombarda e toscana con forme e modelli tra i più aggiornati dell’architettura del Quattrocento.

I sistemi costruttivi nell’architettura medievale: John Ruskin e le coperture a volta

John Ruskin’s ability to depict the architecture he had studied in depth during several trips to Italy, drawing preserved buildings together with others falling into disuse, provide us with a wide and exhaustive series of construction details and architectural elements regarding part of the Italian medieval heritage, especially of Northern and Central Italy. This paper presents part of an ongoing research on vaulted systems used in religious buildings between Romanesque and Gothic, focusing in particular on the wide phase of experimentation linked to the introduction of cross vaults.

The renewal policies concerning Medieval castles and noble houses transformed into in palaces and villas, also involve the subAlpine territories. In particular, at the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th, the main noble dynastic families became carriers of new construction practices aimed at the renovation of existing structures and the opening of new construction sites for palaces and villas outside urban centres and in the countryside.

Observant Churches in North-West Italy in the Fifteenth Century: Architectural Models and Liturgical Themes

n the fifteenth century, north-western Italy witnessed a proliferation of settlements of Observant friars following the spread of mendicant friars in previous centuries. It was a vast and significant phenomenon, inspired by the renewed ‘Franciscan’ ideals that stemmed from the original ethical and social vision of this community. Western Italy has been overlooked by systematic research into the settlements of Observants.
