Bridging the Gap: The Measure of Urban Resilience

The concept of resilience has arisen as a “new way of thinking”. It was applied in planning at th...e end of the last century as a concept that encourages policies to face stress factors and react by renewing and innovating cities. Resilience becomes instrumental in addressing both causes and effects of significant global challenges. As it motivates the transformative potentials of cities, resilience is commonly named “co-evolutionary resilience” or, most recently, “transformative resilience”.

Procedure for Technological Diagnosis of Oily Residuals Management in Cubans Distributed Generation Power Plants

In Cuba, more than 50 % of the electricity generation capacity is based on small-scale distribute...d power plants, which
guarantee the energy supply-demand from fossil fuels. Several negative environmental impacts are associated with this,
including contamination by oily residuals. The purpose was to diagnose oily residuals management in Cubans distributed

Towards Energy Self-consumption and Self-sufficiency in Urban Energy Communities

In Europe, 70% of citizens live in urban areas and consume around 75% of the primary energy supply. In order to reduce the impact of energy consumption and improve the competitiveness of local energy systems, Energy Communities may help to address the challenges of urban sustainability and energy security through local energy production and self-consumption.

Roof-Integrated Green Technologies, Energy Saving and Outdoor Thermal Comfort: Insights from a Case Study in Urban Environment

Green urban infrastructures have a significant impact on urban climate mitigation, on indoor and outdoor thermal comfort and on energy performance of buildings. In this paper, outdoor thermal comfort conditions and energy saving for space heating and cooling were investigated before and after the use of roof-integrated green technologies. Existing urban energy and climate models and tools were applied to an urban area located in a Turin (Italy).

Evaluation of Urban-Scale Building Energy-Use Models and Tools—Application for the City of Fribourg, Switzerland

Building energy-use models and tools can simulate and represent the distribution of energy consum...ption of buildings located in an urban area. The aim of these models is to simulate the energy performance of buildings at multiple temporal and spatial scales, taking into account both the building shape and the surrounding urban context.

A Transfer Learning Application to FEM and Monitoring Data for Supporting the Classification of Structural Condition States

One of the main problems concerning the field of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is the unavai...lability of data from different structural conditions. This is especially true for civil structures, where the collection of data from different damage states is often infeasible or economically inconvenient, particularly when dealing with architectural heritage structures.
